Black Pteri Guide
Defeating the black pteri earns you the Black Pteri avatar, and in the end, possibly even a rank on the Black Pteri High Score List. Anyway, the point of this article is to try and introduce you guys to the ins and outs of The Black Pteri and exactly how to go about defeating it and or defeating it so many times that it's almost too easy.
 CAW CAW
How to Get the Black Pteri: The Black Pteri is a hidden challenger that you can recieve anywhere on the site. The Black Pteri will fly past and make some sort of ominous call, and you will be able to battle him in the battledome. This is a fairly common random event as far as random events go, but the best advice is not to go looking for him. He will come.
His Weapons: His three main weapons that you should watch out for are his Caw of Despair (5 dark, 5 physical), Shriek of Misery (6 air, 6 dark) and his Song of Futility (5 air, 3 dark, 3 water, and may freeze).
Basic Strategy: As you may or may not have noticed, his main weapons focus around dark, and air. One important thing to note is that his Thyoras Tear is in his first slot, which blocks all icons for a turn. You can steal this! Be sure to do this on the first turn though, since if you don't, you'll steal a hawk bracelet once he uses his tear.
I can aid you in many ways...
Defeating The Black Pteri for the 1st Time
Alright. The Black Pteri will start with 93 HP, and I assume the 85 str boost. (It's been a while.) He can do a maximum of 12 + 11 icons, which is 23. He also has the berserk ability, which means that he can do a maximum of 86 damage to you on a neutral stance, and 129 if you berserk with no defensive weapons.
If you use sink, he can do a maximum of 11 icons, which is 41 damage with a berserk. If you use burrow, he can also do 11 icons.
Note: This is not including species weakness or resistance.
With this in mind, you'll probably want to have around 100 HP unless you have a Ghostkershield, in which case you'll be in extremely good case. With an 85 boost G-shield, the Black Pteri will only be able to do 11 icons on any given turn, which means that even with a berserk he can only do 11 icons.
Anyway, enough dillydallying, you probably want to know precisely how you can defeat the Black Pteri, so here's how it goes in a nutshell. If you're just an average neopian, this will be your weapon set just to beat him once:
Stone Muffin x4
Purple Sticky Hand
Ultra Dark Reflectorb
Scroll of Freezing ** You might not need this, and it's pretty pricey.
Scarab Ring
Stone Muffin is a 1-use muffin that does 13.5 icons. Purple Sticky hand has a 50% chance to steal. Ultra Dark Reflectorb reflects 50% of the dark, and might break. Scroll of Freezing has a 100% chance to freeze once, but might break afterwards.
I recommend you be at LEAST the 35 boost before you take him on. If you're at the 85 boost, two stone muffins and berserk will kill him with 101 damage. 35 boost will only deal 57 damage to him with fierce attack, so you'll have to get creative. I recommend continuously doing purple sticky hand + ultra dark reflectorb + burrow on the first turn until you steal his thyoras tear, then t-tear + stone muffin + fierce attack, then sink + stone muffin + scroll of freezing, and then stone muffin x2 + fierce. That should be enough to kill him, possibly even a little excessive. The lower level you are, the more costly it will to be to defeat him with just a couple of cheap 1-Use weapons.
Getting on the High Score List
So you've graduated from just beating him to wanting to beat him hundreds of times eh? Personally I've beaten him 848 times and range from 1~5 on the high score list depending on who's around at the time. Anyway, here are some tips to use to defeat him:
Weapons to Use:
Ghostkershield
100% Freezer
Heavy Robe Of Thievery
Hubrids Puzzle Box
Ghostkerbomb
SOS, PCC, FSS, G-sword, or higher
It's a pretty basic strategy. After around 5000 HP, start using box + robe first turn, then box + sos, then box + freeze, then box + g-bomb + berserk, tear + constant, then g-shield + constant for the rest of the match. Save your power for regenerations, and you should be good to go. G-shield takes out most of its attack. If you want to go for a 100% HP win, then just don't use the freeze until later and save up the tear too. Healing's useful for the battle just to last a bunch more turns, but eh. Once you get 1000~2000 HP it's mostly just an endurance fest. Try not to get chain frozen, but it's not like you can help it! Good luck!
I'll freeze you so many times in a row you'll be crying...
