Neopian History

For the most part, the neopets servers have been fairly secure. However, in a couple instances, data was compromised and bad things occurred. As a result, many neopians lost money, and some their entire accounts. Here's a listing of the tragedies that have befell Neopians since the beginning of Neopets.

Ad0

Around mid 2003, there was a hacker that went by the name Ad0. Breaking into the neopets database, he made a script that reset and lowered the stats of everyone who posted on the BD chat that day. He also reset the accounts of several famous players, such as featheralley, hrobi, and v_team. He also managed to break into the neoadmin account and made screenshots of it.

Later on, the Neopian Times published an article in response, and blamed the stat changes on a mis-firing lab ray.

4/4/04

There isn't much to say except that someone found a glitch in the password system, or some random glitch just occurred. But basically, people could access any account whose password wasn't changed that day, since the password hint showed people what your password was or something like that. It was a mess.

Dupe Day

In July of 2005, some hackers managed to use a quickstock glitch to dupe a bunch of high level items, such as Faerie Slingshot and Thyoras Tear. Then they sold them all buyable or just plain donated them to the money tree and random people. Here's a good article on Dupe Day

6/05/07 Bank Glitch

There was a glitch in the bank accounts, and if you deposited money when you upgraded, you doubled your bank account cash. Needless to say, this piled up very quickly and caused some crazy problems. One guy had over 300 billion NP in pure and upgraded his shop to be larger than gawd's.
