Stat Points and What They Mean

Stat points are what dictate how strong your pet is in battle, without factoring the weapons. Battling is mostly icon based, and the more STR that you have, the more damage you'll deal per icon dealt. The more DEF you have, the more damage that your SHIELDS will block. Note that these are items that have pictures under your pet.

This is an example of my pet's stats. Movement is required for certain weapons, but for the most part is useless. The same goes for intelligence, although there are certain weapons that require high int. Health is the most important stat point, it's basically your endurance, and the more you have, the longer you can survive a battle, and thus the more likely you'll win.
This is typical for the starting stats of a neopet, and you don't get your numbers shown until you reach over 35 stat points for each skill.

FREE Training

There are a variety of methods to get free stat points. The first is Coltzan's Shrine. Here, if you approach the shrine every 10 hours or so, you have a chance of Coltzan granting one of your pets a free stat point. However, he stops being so kinda the stronger your pets get.

The second way is through a faerie quest, if a faerie gives you a quest, you have to find the item that they want, then give it to them Here. Fire Faeries give you +2 strength, light faeries give you +1 level, water faeries give you +2 defense, air faeries give you +2 movement, dark faeries give you +2 HP, and earth faeries just feed your pet. There are also three other types of RARE faeries, The Queen Faerie gives you a level, 3 HP, and 2 str, the Space faerie gives you +4 levels, and the Fountain Faerie gives you the ability to paint your pet any color you want Here.
*Note that faerie quests are a RANDOM event, and should not be confused with bottled faeries, Illusen, or Jhudora.

The last way is through a random event, which gives your pet a free level.

100% Guaranteed Training (Costs Money)

The first method to train is through either the Swashbuckling Academy or the Mystery Island Training Academy. The Swashbuckling Academy uses Dubloons as currency, and if you check the prices page, you'll see how much you'll pay per level. The Mystery Island Training Academy uses Codestones as their currency, but you'll have to buy a specific type of codestone to pay for the course. Not just any one will do!

After you graduate past level 250, you'll no longer be able to use the schools to train. Instead, you'll have to wander off to the "Secret" Ninja School to train. If you're at EXACTLY level 250, you can use BOTH schools at the same time!

Note: All stats can be a maximum of double your level, except HP, which can be triple. Pay careful attention to the training prices with level requirements to make sure you don't pay more than you have to.

The last way of doing 100% training is by using Neggs. These are EXTREMELY costly, but they are foods that increase your pets stats instantly. Only certain neggs increase stats though, so don't go out buying neggs randomly. Examples of neggs that increase stats are the Ferocious Negg, which increases str and gives your pet a disease, and the Snegg, that gives you pet 1 to 3 hit points and some movement. There is a limit to how many neggs your pet can eat though, and when it becomes too bloated, you can't feed any more.

I'll make you strong!

Variable Daily Training

The cheapest way to train is via the Lab Ray. You'll have to shell out over 400,000 NP to buy all 9 DIFFERENT pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map Pieces, but you can use it once per day forever, and it's well worth the cost. Every day you can gain or lose stats, but HP is never lost. The only problem is that it misbalances your stats, with HP and Str increasing, Def mostly staying the same, and level being dropped tremendously. It can also change your pet's species, color, and gender at random times, which may or may not be to your liking.

The second and most costly way of variable training is doing Kitchen Quests. While costly, for some this is the only way of training, (such as myself). It has a 1/3 chance of giving a stat point to one of your pets, and you can do 10 per day. This is recommended for extremely high level pets, or for people that want to train super fast without using neggs.

I cause a lot of high level trainers headaches!

Advanced Tips

Remember the following tips to train faster:
1. Buy the lab ray early and be sure to use it every day unless you're close to a training block, and too many stats would take you over the requirement.
2. If you're over the level that you need, but still have stats to go, consider asking to borrow a pair of Fake Von Roo Fangs. They run about 30~40 mill now though, so this option may no longer be available
3. Only have ONE pet. This speed things up tremendously and makes sure that all the stats go to the right pet.
4. Try and do as many kitchen quests as possible. They're a burden after a while, but they speed up training tremendously, if you do all 10 every day (which is expensive) you can gain about 500 or more HP per year.
5. If you're really really rich, as long as they haven't changed it, Rainbow Melt Pizza should decrease your pet's hunger, and you can negg more.
6. If you're exactly level 250, you can do use both training schools at mystery island at the same time.
7. You can scratch up to 5 scratchcards per day. Terror Trove Scratchcards have a low chance of giving out levels, but they can give out levels nonetheless, and are the cheapest level-giving SC.

Train hard young grasshopper.
